The JMAC Memorial Scholarship honors, John Machiaverna, a founding member and Chief Executive Officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Anaheim-Cypress. John, affectionately known as JMAC, was a beloved member of the Anaheim Community. JMAC worked tirelessly to serve the youth and families of Anaheim. This scholarship program continues his vision to provide opportunities for all youth to graduate high school with opportunities for a successful future. 11th and 12th grade students who are active members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Anaheim-Cypress are eligible to receive a $2,500 scholarship to attend Cypress College and receive the education or technical training they need to pursue further education or enter the workforce.
For nearly 20 years, the school has partnered with our Boys & Girls Club, providing scholarships for youths who would otherwise be unable to afford tuition at the school. In this program, Sister Johnellen takes at-risk kids who might live in a hotel or a shelter and gives them a scholarship into St. Catherine's Academy ... You have kids coming from the poorest conditions with the opportunity to go to one of the most prestigious high schools in the county.
A school-year scholarship to St. Catherine's costs about $47,000. Members from our Boys & Girls Club who receive scholarships from the school are funded through their eighth-grade graduation. That means that if one of the Club's members earns the scholarship early enough, they could receive up to nine years of private schooling for free. And if they keep a 3.0 GPA, they earn another academic scholarship that pays for their high school at Servite.
