POWER HOUR

Power Hour: Making Minute Count helps Boys & Girls Club members achieve academic success by providing homework support, tutoring and technology-engaged activities. The program gives Club members assistance, resources and guidance in a safe place and under the supervision of qualified tutors. By encouraging members to develop a daily habit of completing homework and studying, in a dedicated space with adult support, Power Hour helps members make a commitment to school and learning.

Parks with Purpose

In partnership with OC Parks, the Parks with Purpose program is designed to teach students the importance of parks in our community, demonstrating that parks are essential for understanding the past, enjoying the present and preserving the future. Each session has a brief video providing background information and highlighting the connection between that session and an OC Parks facility. Various topics include geology, flooding, archaeology and its ties to OC's citrus industry, conservation and stewardship.

First LEGO Robotics

In FIRST LEGO League, students engage in hands-on STEM experiences, building confidence, growing their knowledge and developing habits of learning. FIRST LEGO League’s three divisions inspire youth to experiment and grow their critical thinking, coding and design skills through hands-on STEM learning and robotics.

Triple Play

Triple Play is a suite of three targeted programs that work together to promote Healthy Lifestyles. The three programs were intentionally written to build the skills, attitudes, knowledge and behaviors essential to an overall healthy lifestyle. Healthy eating, physical activity and relationship building are addressed in a suite of three easy-to-use resources. Each component is a complete curriculum. Together, they help youth learn to sustain the health of the mind, body and soul.

Homework Help & Enrichment + STEM + The Arts

  • Power Hour, Homework Help and Enrichment

    Power Hour: Making Minute Count helps Boys & Girls Club members ages 6-18 achieve academic success by providing homework support, tutoring and technology-engaged activities. The program gives Club members assistance, resources and guidance in a safe pace and under the supervision of qualified tutors. By encouraging members to develop a daily habit of completing homework and studying, in a dedicated space with adult support, Power Hour helps members make a commitment to school and learning.


    Summer Brain Gain: READ! Focuses on foundational literacy and comprehension skills through different book focuses and opportunities to express what was read/ learned  the program is designed to mitigate summer learning loss, which so many youth can experience without engaging and enriching educational experiences.

  • STEM

    STEM programming in Boys & Girls Clubs emphasizes innovation and creativity. It empowers youth to develop real-world solutions to relevant issues facing the community. 


    DIY STEM: An activity-based program for 9-12-year olds designed to support members as they develop the skills to become critical thinkers in the fields of STEM. 


    FIRST LEGO Robotics participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and teachers build a better future together.     NBA Math Hoops: A comprehensive community program, featuring a basketball board game, mobile app, and curriculum, that allows students to learn fundamental math skills through the game of basketball. All program content is developed in alignment Common Core State Standards and 21st Century Learning Skills, and has been shown to improve students’ foundational math and social-emotional skills. The NBA Math Hoops program experienced is managed by Learn Fresh, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, in association with NBA Cares.

  • The ARTS

    Art for the People: BGCGAC created Art club that highlights various artists that align with the Heritage month cycle calendar. Art for the People creates a space for creative expression through cultural appreciation of various artists and their artistic styles which creates a safe space for all our members. 


    Choir: Members participate in weekly Choir rehearsal. At each rehearsal they'll warm up their instrument (voice) and then proceed to work on a variety of music pieces. Members also have the opportunity to participate in performances across community events.


    Performing Arts 101: Promotes Club member's love of drama, while increasing their appreciation of this art form, building self-confidence, inspiring creativity and increasing academic achievement.

Healthy Lifestyles

Sports, Fitness & Recreation + Health & Nutrition + Mental Health

  • Sports, Fitness, and Recreation

    Jr. RBI: Designed to create playing divisions that provide baseball and softball opportunities for youth ages 5-12. There are three recommended divisions of play for Jr. RBI: 5-7, 8-10 and 11-12. Each division has its own set of rules designed to develop young players. In divisions with players ages 6-10, the emphasis is on teaching the fundamentals of baseball and making it fun. Divisions for players ages 11-12 may be utilized as an introduction to competitive baseball and softball. Player safety is a priority for Jr. RBI. For baseball programs, playing rules are designed to protect pitchers. A pitch count is utilized in order to accurately track the stress on young players' developing bodies.


    Play Ball: A program that highlights the many ways baseball can be played outside of traditional organized baseball leagues and tournaments, ways ranging from playing catch, stickball and WIFFLE Ball games to participating in skills competitions like "Pitch, Hit & Run." Play Ball allows youth ages 6-18 to increase their overall fitness while learning the fundamental skills of baseball and softball through fun and enriching activities.


    Triple Play: Daily Challenges Intentional focus on physical literacy: Ability - Increasing capability in basic movement skills and overall fitness; Confidence -the knowledge of the ability to play sports or enjoy other physical activities and Motivation- the intrinsic enthusiasm for physical activity for members to be physically active for life.

  • Health and Nutrition

    Gardening: Our King Clubhouse and Manzanita Clubhouse programs both have gardens.  The gardens provide educational, hands-on education opportunities for youth to learn about farm-to-table eating, nutrition, plant life cycles, and environmental sustainability.


    Triple Play: Healthy Habits Addresses the ways an individual’s health behaviors are influenced by personal beliefs and exposure to positive modeling. In addition to nutrition education, activities focus on helping youth assess, practice, identify, consider, and recognize health behaviors and messages.

  • Mental Health

    Grow to Be: This program creates and promotes positive self-awareness, pride, appreciation, and confidence in every child. It involves the five core SEL competenceis: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making.

Social-Emotional Learning + Service Learning/Leadership

  • Social-Emotional Learning

    Passport to Manhood: Represents a targeted effort to engage young boys in discussions and activities that reinforce character, leadership and positive behavior. Each participant receives a “passport” to underscore the notion that he is on a personal journey of maturation and growth. Each of the program’s 14 sessions use interactive activities to focus on a specific aspect of character and manhood. It also includes a service project where boys learn the importance of giving back to the community.


    Smart Girls: The interactive, engaging, small-group sessions engender camaraderie, while also encouraging each girl to explore and express her individuality through discussions, hands-on games and activities, role-play, take-home challenges and activities, and collaborative decision-making and problem solving.


    Triple Play: Social Recreation is a social-emotional learning curriculum that builds skills a young person needs to make healthy choices. The program consists of six thematic units with five sessions each; activities help young people develop healthy relationships with themselves and others, emotional regulation skills and responsible decision-making skills.
